Do you know where you came
from? Yes I know about the birds and the bees, I mean in a family history
sort of way. Sadly there are many children who do not know or are not
allowed to know whom their biological parents are. A debate rages in the
Uk about what will happen now sperm donors cannot remain anonymous. But
there has always been problems with parentage, the Jews got it right by
bestowing Jewishness via the mother, that always used to be the one true
parent one could guarantee.
I traced my family history and
discovered how not knowing a father has always been pretty common, we just
stigmatise it at certain periods though I do sympathise with the child.
In doing research I found one
guy who managed to trace his history back into the Bible and then through
the genealogy in the Bible back to Adam and Eve, pretty amazing stuff. But
it did put me in mind of the fact that how little or much we can trace our
parentage, we do all have one father, God. He loves and cares for us and
about us just like good human fathers and mothers do about their children.
