Friday, end of the working week. Weekend, time for some fun and enjoyment before starting over again with a new week on Monday.

I learnt that phrase 'working week' because it seems  that is what most diaries are based on these days. I was always taught that Sunday was the first day of the week and indeed, as a preacher, liked my diary page to start on a Sunday. That is quite difficult to achieve these days.

It was about the first day being a day of rest and being that because it was on that day that Jesus rose from the dead. I am not sure what the American or other countries now do with Sunday, but the UK has changed the nature of Sunday quite dramatically. Not long ago Government decided to allow trading on Sunday, now the shops are busier then than Saturday. Well more and more people did not know what to do with Sunday, they had long since stopped going to church. 

Perhaps if the church services had not been so boring and the preacher so patronising we might have kept our audiences and there would have been no need for change.

More like if we had told them about Jesus and what he can really do for us when they sat in our pews, we might have changed the person in the pew......into a Christian!!! 

Doesn't bear thinking about does it?
